Great map and a fabulous gift from our last trip!
The map is great and I can hardly wait to use it. I plan on purchasing more.
The maps are great. Able to navigate by these maps if need be.
I love the concept of these maps and ordered one to check it out. To be clear, it is a beautiful looking map... a piece of art almost. Once in hand, however, I've come to question the practicality. For one, although the scale is the same as a Fisher map, holding them up side to side, Fisher comes out on top hands down for (as least my perception) of readability and navigation ease. The portages are less clear on the True North map, and the printing is less clear. It's weird because the scales are identical, but the True North scale just feels smaller for some reason. I imagine this readability issue might have to do with the printing on fabric. The other concern I recognized once having the map in hand is that not being a flat surface like a paper map, this creates an additional usage challenge. I haven't been in a canoe with the map yet, but tried to simulate it by sitting on a foot stool with a pack on the ground in front of me... and it's very tricky to lay out the map flat (on your lap or on a pack, or I imagine hanging from a thwart) so you can see it clearly to navigate from. The folds and bends of the fabric are a clear distraction, and my guess is that one would be constantly trying to smooth out surfaces as you were working with the map - I think that would get pretty frustrating pretty quickly. So overall, a fantastic concept, but it would not work out well for me.
